Alison Boyd PhD, BSc, RD, RNutr
Director
Alison was educated at the University of Ulster Coleraine where she gained a BSc (Human Nutrition with Dietetics) and PhD in Nutrition and Diabetes. Her research focused specifically on clinical and experimental studies related to the pathophysiology of the disease. She was then appointed Senior Dietitian in the Royal Hospitals Belfast, carrying out clinical duties for four years. In 2001, she took up the post of Research Director at The Sugar Bureau where she headed an active Research Programme, funding scientific research in areas such as obesity, diabetes and public health related issues both in academic institutions and in NHS trusts throughout the UK. In 2007, Alison was appointed Head of The Sugar Bureau. Alison is a member of the British Dietetic Association, Nutrition Society, European Association for the Study of Diabetes and Diabetes UK. She sits on the Industrial Scientists Committee of the British Nutrition Foundation and the Scientific and Communications Committee of the World Sugar Research Organisation.

Mary Harrington, PhD
Nutrition Communications Manager
Mary graduated from University College Cork, Ireland with a BSc in nutritional sciences and continued her studies with a PhD in the same area, focusing on optimal nutrition towards osteoporosis prevention. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich where she collaborated on food fortification projects in developing countries. Mary then joined the World Sugar Research Organisation where she was involved in a wide range of lobbying and scientific activities related to sugar, nutrition and health including WHO, FAO and Codex issues. In April 2008, she joined The Sugar Bureau team as the Nutrition Communications Manager. Her role is to oversee the communication of nutrition in relation to sugar and health, to the media, health professionals and consumers.

Jenny Clements BA(Hons)
Information and Administration Manager
Jenny graduated from the Roehampton Institute, London, in 1986 with a combined Honours Degree in Home Economics and Social Administration. After leaving college Jenny worked in several administrative roles including a period at ICL Computers Ltd before later moving on to work as Conference and Banqueting Co-ordinator at The Tower Thistle Hotel in London. Jenny joined The Sugar Bureau over 19 years ago as Secretary and over the years has undertaken a variety of roles within the Bureau. Her main roles now include co-ordinating the day-to-day functioning of the office; maintaining IT services; Desk Top Publishing; Web Development; assisting staff with ad hoc projects; dealing with various informaton enquiries; and acting as PA to the Head of The Sugar Bureau.
